There was a tie for 2nd place between Mark Robertshaw and Mike Kateley from Kirdford with 3 wins + 19. The winner was Mike Sheppard with 3 wins + 30. Well done Mike.

CHRISTMAS MELEE 2017

Poppy Doubles at Cobbetts – Sunday 12 November 2017

Once again, the Poppy Doubles competition at Cobbetts attracted a large number of Fareham Petanque Club members, with a few unable to secure a place due to this popular event being fully booked (38 teams) within just a few days of being advertised.  The day was meticulously run and a resounding success as Cobbetts raised £600 with players from across the Region and beyond giving generously.

It was a sunny but cold November day and some parts of the terrain were still a bit soggy from the previous days rain.  Format for the day comprised of Leagues in the morning and knockouts in the afternoon with prizes at various levels.

Minions David K & Carrie were the all Fareham team who made it into the Main along with Jackie Lee who played with Stuart Curlsey from Oxshott and Paula Fauvel who played with Carol Collyer (Cobbetts).  Most of the other teams made it to the Plate with a few teams enjoying some fun games in the Wooden Spoon with a fair bit of friendly banter.

Known results of FPC Members included:

Main:

  • Quarter Final:  Paula Fauvel & Carol Collyer (Cobbetts)
  • Consolage Final: Jackie Lee & Stuart Cursley (Oxshott)
  • Top 16:  David K & Carrie (The Minions)

Plate:

  • Quarter Final:  Mark Robertshaw with his mum Karen
  • Consolage winners: Malcolm & Shelley
  • Consolage Semi-Final:  Paul & Hassi

Well done to all FPC members who played on this Remembrance Day and helped raise money for the Poppy Appeal.

Hassi

Mayor’s Cup – 28th October 2017

This year’s Mayor’s Cup was held at Fareham Petanque Club and was hotly contested in the lovely Autumn sunshine. Despite a number of club members taking part in the Ladies Coaching Day at Cobbetts, Fareham were the clear winners with 13 games to Portchester’s 8 and Searles’ 6. All three Fareham triples contributed to the victory but the stars were David Kilshaw, David Meyer and John Caine who achieved a clean sweep of 6 games.

Congratulations to all the Fareham team:

David Kilshaw
David Meyer
John Caine
Carrie LitchfieId
Gerry McAleese

The Mayor and Mayoress of Fareham, Cllr Geoff Fazackarley and his wife Tina were particularly impressed that Fareham had a junior playing in the team – well done Josh!

Overall we raised £209 for the Mayor’s charities: Sam’s Haven and The Moving On Project

Congratulations to Fareham’s Paula Fauvel for winning the SCPA Mixed Doubles with David Cruz at Cobbetts Boules Club. Fareham Singles – 26 August 2016

Congratulations to David Kilshaw, who won today’s 2017 Club Singles competition at Fareham Petanque Club, taking the title of “Singles Champion” from last year’s winner Mark Robertshaw in a hard-fought and tense final.

22 competitors took part in the annual competition, which has been held by Fareham Petanque Club (formerly Limesdowne Pétanque Club) for over 20 years. The competition enjoyed warm weather and bright August sunshine and saw some great play from experienced and new players alike, including spirited efforts by three FPC junior members – Josh, Tyler and Max. The morning was played as leagues, with the top two from each league being joined by the next best six overall to play in the main knockout competition in the afternoon. Players who did not qualify for the Main competed in a snake-format Plate competition.

Thanks to Competitions Secretary Malcolm for a well-run day, which ended with many bottles of wine being presented as prizes. Thanks also to Mary and Marion for providing lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

Fareham Ladies reach final in EPA National Women’s Ranking Triples

Congratulations to Sheila Hayward, Carrie Litchfield & Hassi Leverett on reaching the finals of the EPA Women’s Ranking Triples at Arlesey Petanque Club on Sunday, playing on one of the toughest pistes in England!  The terrain at Arlesey is famous for its’ technical difficulty and contains many hidden obstacles – random “pinging” is a hazard for even the most experienced players, careful selection of landing spot is essential, and only boule-on-boule shooting is likely to succeed.

Having never played together as a Triples team before, Sheila, Carrie & Hassi gelled from the start and embarked on the day with some great team spirit and determination. SCPA President Glenn Floyd, who was also at Arlesey, commented:  “Yesterday I saw three of our ladies play in a national competition reaching the final and only narrowly missing out on a historic win”. Glenn said our Fareham ladies were an inspiration and he hoped this would encourage more ladies across the region to take part in EPA competitions.

Congratulations also to the Fareham Men’s team of Paul Hayward, David Kilshaw & Mark Robertshaw who made it into the top 8 after seeing off some very tough competition in the morning league – a good result against some of the top petanque players in England.

Fareham Charity Melee – 22 July 2017

32 players from Fareham, Porchester, Cobbets, Southsea, Southampton, The Ship and Arundel petanque clubs entered our charity melee in aid of Hants and IoW Air Ambulance. Overall we made £252 for the charity. Despite the rain, hail (!) and the very occasional burst of sunshine, it was a hotly contested but friendly competition.

  • 1st place –  Mark Robertshaw (5 Wins +52)
  • 2nd place – Mike Sheppard (5 Wins +36)
  • 3rd place – Gerry McAleese (4 Wins +34)
  • 4th place – Alan Samuels (4 Wins +30)

Gerry also won the “Shoot the Egg” competition – thanks to Paul Hayward for running this competition.
