Southern Counties Leagues
There are two league structures within the SCPA; both involve participating clubs playing an equal number of home and away matches in each season. Games are usually played in the evenings from March to October.
The six-a-side league is organised into four divisions. Each match consists of one round of 2 triples games followed by a round of 3 doubles games, making a total of 5 games per match.
The nine-a-side league is organised into two divisions. Each match consists of three rounds of 3 triples games, making a total of 9 games per match.
In one season, a player can only play for one club in each league.
Scoresheets and rules are available on SCPA Website here: http://www.southerncountiespetanque.org.uk/leagues.html
6-a-side competitions
The captain selects 6 players from their team to play against another club in the league on an agreed date, usually a weekday evening.
- The first game of the evening is triples.
- Players are divided into two triples by the captain and each of the two triples play one of the other team’s triples.
- After all triples games are completed, the players are reorganised into three doubles by the team captain.
- Each of the three doubles play one of the other team’s doubles.
- A total of 5 games are played in the evening, two triples games and three doubles games.
- Each team plays every other team in their league twice in a season, once at home and once away.
- Points are scored for each game win.
9-a-side competitions
The captain selects 9 players from their team to play against another club in the league on an agreed date, usually a weekday evening.
- Players are divided into three triples by the captain.
- Each of the three triples play each of the other team’s triples, so a total of 9 games are played in the evening.
- Each team plays every other team in their league twice in a season, once at home and once away.
- Points are scored for each game win.
