Social
Refreshments are always available on club nights and members are welcome to come along for a chat even if they’re not playing.
Some club members also go on petanque-playing holidays together, to places such as France, Spain or Greece.
Charity
Each year the club nominate a charity to support and runs a Charity Melee competition to raise money for them. For many years we raised money for
Macmillan Cancer Support, and our current nominated charity is Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (GAFIRS) We also supporting other causes such as the
Fareham Mayor’s charities.
Competition entry fees, raffles and novelty competitions such as “shoot the egg” produce good sums for these deserving causes.
Maintenance
Maintaining our terrains and surrounds involves regular work parties to muck in and renew fencing, paint, weed, tidy up, replace lights, and so on. Wherever possible our members do all routine maintenance and volunteers are always welcome, from leaf-sweeping to carpentry.
Twinning
For many years the club has had a twinning arrangement with Vannes, in Brittany. On alternate years club members travel to France, or hosts a visit from French players and family members. This involves staying with families, social events, meals, some petanque and other local activities.
